A Note from the Captain

One captain.
Two ways to put him on a helm.

Captain Ed is a freelance professional captain — credentialed, insured, and based year-round in Pula. The work is straightforward: I run boats for the people who own them, charter them, or need them moved.

That breaks into two service lines. Skipper services covers bareboat skipper-for-hire and freelance charter-company work — getting on a boat that's already booked or fleeted, and running her for the agreed dates. Yacht deliveries covers vessel movements of any distance, from a Pula-to-Trogir transfer to a Croatia-to-Greece passage. Same captain, same standard, billed at a clean day rate plus the obvious expenses.

What's On Offer

Two service lines.

Both come down to the same thing — a credentialed captain on the helm of your boat for the dates that matter. The difference is whether the boat stays put or gets moved.

A captain who knows the wind on Tuesday is more valuable than a brochure that promises sunshine.

— The Working Principle
Why the Difference Matters

You're paying for judgment.

The Adriatic is famously gentle for ten months of the year and famously not for the other two. The bora can show up sideways in twenty minutes. Whether the job is a delivery, a charter week, or a sea-trial run for a broker - a captain who's worked these straits in every season is the difference between a boat that arrives on schedule and a story you'd rather not tell.

Twenty years aboard. Croatian Yachtmaster A. STCW certified. American Sailing Association instructor. Active professional indemnity insurance. The credentials are real — but the value is the half-second decisions they cover.

The Captain's Background
Sailing Grounds

From Pula —
a coast in every direction.

Pula sits at the southern tip of Istria, with three of the most beautiful sailing grounds in Europe within a half-day's reach. North to Rovinj and the Limski Fjord. East across the Kvarner channel to Cres, Lošinj, Krk and Rab. South to the open Adriatic and the offshore islands. These are the waters I work in week after week — for charter weeks, deliveries, and short repositions.

See the Routes
  • Brijuni National park, Roman ruins, Tito's old summer houses. Anchor inside the protected channel for lunch.
  • Rovinj Venetian bell tower visible from ten miles out. Best approached at golden hour from the south.
  • Cres & Lošinj A two-day sail east across Kvarner. Empty bays, wild goat herds, dolphin pods if the season is right.
  • Cape Kamenjak Twenty minutes south of Pula. Snorkel water, sea caves, and almost no one else.
Ready When You Are

Most projects start with a short message.

WhatsApp is fastest. A quick note about the boat, the dates, and where she needs to be — I'll come back inside the day with options and a clean number.
